This motto of Union Supply Company (USC) says it all. Since it’s inception in 1991
Union Supply Company has been committed to becoming the first choice supplier to commissaries
and canteens through the most comprehensive product offering and excellent customer service at
a reasonable cost.
In 1990, the founder and current president of USC, was working in a war surplus store when
he took a call from a local correctional facility looking for a needed commissary product.
USC met the needs of that first customer and identified an underserved market -- correctional
facilities. Further investigation of this market opportunity included personally visiting
institutions, meeting with the purchasing managers and finding out what they wanted.
They said that one supplier couldn’t meet all their needs – so the Company motto was born
and became the foundation of the fledgling business. They said that most products
weren’t bar coded – so Union Supply created bar codes for all products. As purchasing mangers
made requests, the catalog was expanded under the theory that “If one prison needs it, they
all might want it”. USC's innovation and well-earned knowledge of purchasing, inventory
management and merchandising combined to build a Company that is a leader in it’s market
in terms of product offerings, customer service and order fulfillment.
Innovation
Union Supply Company clearly understands their customers and is committed to presenting
new products that meet the unique needs of this market. Institutions don’t like what
they can’t see so the Company has worked with suppliers to produce a line of electronics –
radios and CD players – with clear cases. USC has worked with shoe suppliers to develop
lines of all white athletic shoes, using wood shanks in shoe construction and replacing
metal with nylon eyelets.
As a result of this commitment to customer needs, Union Supply Company now inventories
and ships over 4,000 separate items of clothing, shoes, and electronics to hundreds of
correctional facilities around the country.
